AdBlock Plus has posted a screenshot of a blunt email exchange between the company and the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), in which the popular ad-blocking firm was disinvited from the IAB’s annual conference. Without explanation, an IAB rep informed AdBlock Plus that its ticket has been refunded and the company will not be permitted to attend.
Boasting 400 million downloads, AdBlock Plus remains one of the most-used browser extensions online, and its absence from the IAB conference will surely be noticed. Competing ad block solution provider Ghostery remains on the conference’s attendee lineup and its CEO will take part on a panel discussion related to the increase of ad block use, so it seems that IAB officials have some kind of conflict with AdBlock Plus specifically, rather than ad blockers in general.
IAB has previously publicly noted its support for creating online monetization solutions void of the kind of heavy advertising that bogs down the user experience.
\"We messed up,\" an IAB blog post read. \"As technologists, tasked with delivering content and services to users, we lost track of the user experience... The fast, scalable systems of targeting users with ever-heftier advertisements have slowed down the public Internet and drained more than a few batteries.\"
When reached for comment, the IAB stated: \"The IAB Annual Leadership Meeting is for serious conversation among important digital industry stakeholders.\"Back to list
